DDA Manifestation Glass Building Regulations

Glass Walls Staying Compliant

We supply & install DDA compliant glass manifestations in offices and buildings

All glass, partitions & glass doors must be clearly identified to comply with building regulations

The location of glass entrance doors should be easily distinguished, especially when they are within a glazed screen and when the door is both open and shut
Manifestation should be located from floor level between 850mm – 1000mm and repeated at 1400mm – 1600mm which could be a solid band, a decorative feature or split dots / squares or bands of 50mm each

Contrast strips or “Goal Posts” should be indicated to the top and on both sides of a glazed door in a glazed screen or partition

The minimal specification is for 50mm dots, squares or solid band, we can incorporate corporate identity, logos and patterns. Etched & frosted films are popular, however we also offer a range of alternative colours & effects

For larger jobs, we can carry-out site surveys & advise you on the minimum requirements or carry-out a full manifestation project
We also supply & install all types of Corporate signage, including Fire Exit & regulation signage

The Law

The manifestation of glass is a legal requirement in areas where there is a risk of human impact (Workplace Health & Safety Welfare Approved code of practice L24 Regulation 14). The requirements are also incorporated in Building Regulations BS 6262 Part 4 Safety. The regulations relate to the glazing of internal and external walls, in public or non-domestic buildings known as critical locations. On May 1st 2004 a new regulation Document M – Access to and Use of Buildings (2004 edition) was issued. This refers to critical locations in new buildings and refurbishments of existing buildings. From this date it is a duty of care that states the following: Glass entrance doors and glazed screens will satisfy Requirement M if: A) They are clearly defined with manifestation on the glass at two levels, 850mm to 1000mm and 1400mm to 1600mm above the floor, contrasting visually with the background seen through the glass (both sides from inside and outside) in all lighting conditions. B) Manifestation takes the form of a logo or sign at least 150mm high (repeated on glazed screens) or a decorative feature such as broken lines or continuous bands, at least 50mm high
